Nth Cycle Signs $1 Billion Nickel Offtake Agreement with Glencore

Nth Cycle signed a ten-year offtake agreement valued at over $1 billion with Glencore to supply recycled critical minerals. Under the binding term sheet, Glencore will provide approximately 24,000 tonnes per year of black mass from its US shredding operations to Nth Cycle. Nth Cycle will process the shredded battery materials using its proprietary Oyster electrochemical extraction technology at a planned facility in South Carolina named Project SHIELD. In return, Nth Cycle will supply Glencore with battery-grade lithium carbonate and a nickel-rich mixed hydroxide product over the decade-long contract. The contract value is based on forecasted metals pricing figures as of the second quarter of 2026, with actual delivery amounts dependent on the mineral content of the received black mass. The partnership secures 100 percent of the projected feedstock and offtake needs for Project SHIELD, which doubled its planned processing capacity following agreements with Glencore and Trafigura. The deal follows a $100 million grant awarded to Nth Cycle by the US Department of Energy in August to support commercial refining construction. Operations at the new refining site are expected to begin by 2029, and the companies are targeting the execution of definitive agreements by the end of 2026. Nth Cycle also recently announced plans to list publicly through a with Kensington Corp. VI that values the company at $585 million.

Lego to Spend $400 Million Expanding Mexico Manufacturing Facility

The Lego Group will invest over $400 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico, adding packing and warehousing capabilities while creating 1,300 jobs. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in early 2027 and finish by 2029. The investment adds more than 667,000 square feet, or 62,000 square meters, of space to the site, which currently employs 7,300 workers. The expansion increases total production capacity at the plant by 35% and includes a fully-automated high-bay warehouse. Upon completion, the facility will span 210,080 square meters on 87 hectares. The Monterrey site serves customers across the Americas and operates alongside a separate packaging and warehousing project announced in 2023 that added 59,000 square meters and 900 jobs earlier this year. Lego is separately investing more than $1.5 billion to build a factory and regional distribution center in Chesterfield, Virginia, with both facilities on track to open in 2027. The Mexican expansion follows first-half 2026 results where grew 26% and consumer sales rose 22%, outpacing the broader global toy market growth of 14% reported by Circana for the same period.

Bentley Unveils Its First Fully Electric Vehicle

bbc.co.uk reports that Bentley has unveiled its first fully electric car, the Torcal SUV, following a £350m factory upgrade in Cheshire. The production line will be housed at the company's headquarters in Crewe, supporting 4,000 local jobs. The vehicle is equipped with a 113kWh battery that delivers a range of up to 375 miles, and it supports rapid charging from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes via a 400kW charger. The standard model reaches a top speed of 155mph and accelerates to 60mph in 3.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the Torcal S variant serves as the brand's most powerful car to date, achieving a top speed of 162mph and a 0 to 60mph time of 2.8 seconds. The investment arrives as the wider UK motor industry contends with headwinds and localized job cuts.

Tesla Semi Event Highlights Electric Trucking Initiatives

Tesla is opening its first high-volume manufacturing plant for the heavy-duty Semi in Sparks, Nevada, as the company attempts to scale production of the electric truck nearly a decade after its initial unveiling. The facility spans 1.7 million square feet and is designed to build up to 50,000 trucks annually. Tesla quotes customers $290,000 for the 500-mile Long Range version, representing a 60% increase over the $180,000 price advertised when the vehicle was introduced in 2017. The 325-mile Standard Range variant costs approximately $260,000 based on California incentive data. The commercial rollout arrives as US diesel averages $6.53 per gallon, marking a 74% increase from the prior year. An industry coalition named ZET SCALE selected Tesla as its primary original equipment manufacturer for an initial order of 2,500 battery-electric Class 8 trucks, while trucking firm Einride agreed to order 500 units for its fleet. Tesla program director Dan Priestley stated that the company expects to build thousands of Semis by the end of 2026. CEO Elon Musk indicated that automated driving systems for the truck could be tested by the end of the year or early next year. Tesla also plans to deliver European-specification trucks featuring up to 550 kilometers of range to overseas customers by late 2027.

Nexterity Launches Automation Solution for Pipefitting

TechCrunch reports that Nexterity has launched a remote-controlled robot designed to automate the loosening and of bolted flange joints in pipefitting. Founded by former ExxonMobil engineer Lindsey Elliott, the startup addresses labor shortages and physical injuries in industrial piping maintenance. The battery-powered device splits into two pieces that clamp around a pipe, sliding along the structure to handle four bolts simultaneously. Nexterity configured the hardware to fit standard pipe sizes ranging from two to eight inches in diameter, targeting a segment that accounts for 80% of industrial piping. Each unit is compact enough to fit inside a Pelican case for transport by a single worker. The company operates on a rental model akin to construction equipment, deploying the machines across sectors including oil and gas, petrochemicals, water treatment, and nuclear facilities.

Kinross Gold Cuts Output Target and Increases Shareholder Payout

Kinross cut its 2026 and 2027 production outlook by about 8% following weather and metallurgical disruptions at its La Coipa mine in Chile and weaker performance at Round Mountain in Nevada. The gold producer now expects annual output of 1.84 million to 1.86 million gold-equivalent ounces, down from its previous of 1.9 million to 2.1 million ounces. All-in sustaining costs for the year are projected at $1,850 to $1,900 per ounce sold, up from an earlier forecast of $1,730. Third-quarter production is expected to reach approximately 425,000 gold-equivalent ounces. Kinross partially offset the lower volume outlook by lifting its 2026 shareholder return target to 50% of from 40%, having already returned about $800 million to investors this year, including $655 million via share . Winter storms and metallurgical issues involving higher copper grades and lower recoveries hampered La Coipa during the third quarter. At Round Mountain, reduced mining rates, grades, and recoveries at Phase S similarly dragged down near-term expectations, though the higher-grade Phase X underground project remains on track to contribute production in 2028.

Key takeaway

Capital commitments across vehicle manufacturing and automated industrial tools show strong sector momentum. However, operational setbacks in precious metals extraction leave uncertainty over whether raw material availability and facility scaling can keep pace with aggressive corporate timelines.
