Apple raised subscription prices for Apple TV, while DAZN acquired EverPass Media to expand its commercial sports footprint in the United States. Meanwhile, regulatory pressures mounted as the FTC prepares a lawsuit against YouTube, and Google expanded AI search summaries at the expense of traditional links.
Apple raised the monthly price of Apple TV to $14.99 and the annual rate to $119. The changes lift the monthly subscription by $2 from its previous price of $12.99 and the annual cost from $99. Current subscribers receive one month of notice before the new rates take effect on their bills. The individual Apple One bundle increased from $19.95 to $21.95 per month to incorporate the higher service fees. The streaming service launched in 2019 at $4.99 per month and has undergone four price increases in four years amid expanding sports and original content.
Circle will brand the front of Chelsea FC jerseys with its USDC stablecoin for the 2026/2027 season, marking the first time a cryptocurrency firm has secured the principal shirt sponsorship of a Premier League club. Financial terms of the agreement were withheld, though reports earlier in the year indicated the club sought 65 million pounds annually for the vacant slot. The partnership arrives three months after the UK Financial Conduct Authority issued warning letters to Premier League clubs regarding unauthorized crypto sponsorship deals. Circle maintains an e-money license from the regulator through its UK subsidiary, though the stablecoin itself is not issued under British law. Chelsea will debut the new kit during its home match against Brighton and Hove Albion.
According to theverge.com, Google is now automatically expanding its AI search summaries at the top of the results page for certain queries. The change pushes standard blue links further down the page behind a full AI Overview and an Ask anything box. Google spokesperson Jennifer Kutz stated that the summaries dynamically expand for topics where systems determine usefulness. The company asserts that users engage deeper in follow-up exploration under this format. Expansion is canceled if users have already begun scrolling past the summary to protect reading position. Criteria for which queries trigger the auto-expansion remain inconsistent across browsers and searches.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma revealed that Project Helix will span a family of devices rather than a single next-generation console. Theverge.com reports that Sharma declined to answer whether the hardware will be discless, though Microsoft introduced a program for digitizing physical games. Microsoft and AMD established a strategic multi-year partnership in 2025 to develop a portfolio of devices, and Xbox vice president Jason Ronald confirmed that Helix will be available as a first-party console. AMD previously hinted at supporting a 2027 launch, while Ronald stated that the hardware will not reach alpha until 2027. The upcoming devices will also feature the ability to play PC games.
The US Federal Trade Commission is preparing a potential lawsuit against Alphabet unit YouTube over whether the video platform violated consumer protection laws by suspending user accounts and demoting content. The antitrust and consumer protection agency has investigated the platform since 2025, focusing on whether users were misled into signing up under content policies that were later applied differently in practice. FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson has driven the scrutiny, arguing that companies must be held accountable for how they police speech online. The agency's Bureau of Consumer Protection has led the inquiry, though some career staff have privately expressed disagreement with filing a case. The investigation targets the enforcement of terms of service rather than traditional antitrust violations, testing legal boundaries where courts have historically granted platforms broad editorial discretion under Section 230.
The Department of Justice dropped subpoenas targeting New York Times journalists following judicial pressure. The subpoenas, issued by U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton, sought testimony regarding an alleged violation of federal criminal law after the publication of reports detailing security concerns about the president's travel on a Qatari-gifted Boeing 747-8 valued at $400 million. Judge Arun Subramanian criticized the hasty nature of the legal actions, which were launched without alternative investigative methods and faced intense resistance from the judiciary. The move follows a pattern of federal scrutiny involving other publications, including leak investigations concerning reporters at The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.
DAZN has agreed to acquire EverPass Media to expand its presence in the United States and launch its commercial venue platform worldwide. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Through the acquisition, DAZN gains EverPass, the commercial distributor of the NFL Sunday Ticket package and other live sports content to venues such as bars, hotels, and restaurants. EverPass was established in 2023 by RedBird Capital Partners and 32 Equity, alongside TKO Group Holdings, and its existing backers will become minority shareholders in DAZN. Following the deal, EverPass will be renamed DAZN for Business, and current CEO Alex Kaplan will continue to lead the unit while taking on an expanded role within DAZN. Existing customers will experience no service interruptions, and the underlying technology will form the foundation for DAZN's global commercial distribution platform.
